Developers 3 times more likely to start developing iOS Apps than Android Apps.

Posted in IPhone App Programming on December 24th, 2011 by Admin

android iosWell this must be bad news for Google Chairman Eric Schmidt, according to mobile market analytics specialist Flurry, developers are almost three times more likely to start development of an iOS App than to start an Android App.

Out of 55,000 companies that Flurry has been tracking, and more than 135,000 applications on their network in 2011, 73 percent of developers are working on iOS projects during the 4th quarter of 2011 compared to just 27 percent working on Android.

According to Peter Farago, vice president of marketing for Flurry “Over the year, developer support for Android has declined from more than one-third of all new projects, at the beginning of the year, down to roughly one-quarter by the end,”

Furthermore Flurry state that they believe the reason for the boost in the appeal of iOS is the fact that Apple has launched the iPhone on two new networks after three years of exclusivity on AT&T’s network. Apple has also seen an increase in popularity since the launch of the iPad 2 and the new iPhone S.

Finally according to Flurry there is one key factor that also plays a large role, the fact that developers are expected to earn 300 percent more revenue than their Android counterparts. If you’re a developer, would you rather develop apps and give them away, or have consumers pay for them?

Google Chairman Eric Schmidt Predicts Developers will Abandon iOS for Android in Less than 6 Months

Posted in IPhone App Programming on December 11th, 2011 by Admin

During the LeWeb conference in Paris Schmidt commented that he believes developers will abandon iOS for Android in less than 6 months, furthermore “he believes the high volume of Android shipments, which has given Google the largest share of worldwide smartphone sales, will win over developers.”

Since the introduction of the first smartphone and the App stores they brought with them, mobile users now have access to almost one million different applications, offering everything from social networking to addictive an hugely popular games such as Angry Birds.

When asked what he thought about the fact that most mobile applications are first released on Apple’s iOS App Store and then released on the Android platform, Schmidt stated that within 6 months Android 4.0 which, is known as Ice Cream Sandwich, will put Android on the map and gain the leading position for application developers.

While Schmidt might think that Android can overtake iOS, there is no denying the numbers, since the release of the App Store more than 600,000 apps have entered the store while a still respectable 320,000 applications have been released for the Android Market.

While Android does seem to be gaining in popularity, the fact that the App Store remains mostly free of malware, an issues which has been growing on the Android platform, added with the fact that developing apps for the iOS still seems to be more popular makes me believe that in 6 months developers will still be favoring Apple and iOS even if Android is gaining in popularity.

Check out some of the talks @ Le Web here.

Apple looking to hire experienced iOS developers to work on Siri

Posted in IPhone App Programming on December 10th, 2011 by Admin

If you have always dreamed of working for Apple then this might be your chance, Apple is currently looking to hire experienced developers to work on Siri.

According to the Twitter site of Siri UI manager Dan Keen Apple is looking for a pair developers to help improve Siri, which doesn’t really come as a surprise since the artificial intelligence-driven digital secretary was launched as a beta product, something Apple never does.

According to the Job posting Apple is looking for someone who will be responsible for developing new features, maintaining existing code, fixing bugs, and contributing to overall system design.

While the fact that Apple is looking for developers to help with Siri doesn’t automatically mean they will open up Siri to third-party apps, I really think it is more a matter of time before Apple decides to allow third-party apps to use Siri, as 9to5mac.com puts it “Think talking to your apps, saying stuff like Update my Facebook status saying ‘Is anyone up for a movie tonight?’”

If you think this is the job opening just waiting for you to send your resume check these links.

Calling all iOS Developers!

Posted in IPhone App Programming on July 7th, 2011 by Admin

s3cr3ts_featured_image

Hey iCoders,

A bunch of us on iCodeBlog have been working on a big new mobile product for developers that we are going to release in the next two months or so. Currently we have something ready for iOS developers to mess around with and try within their own applications. We haven’t released any info on this product yet but I can tell you:

1. It makes mobile development faster.
2. It plays in the cloud.
3. You already know how to use it.

We’re looking for all levels of developers to help us iterate on the product and get it ready for prime time. It’s all free, usage, support, whatever you need. But we will be contacting you before sending you invites as we are keeping our alpha user base small.

If you interested contact us at s3cr3t@elctech.com

You’ll hear more about this in the months to come. Thanks guys.

New ALM Tools for Visual C++ Developers

Posted in C++ on May 17th, 2011 by Admin

Charles TorreHi, I’m Charles Torre, Sr. Technographer with Channel 9.

One area that people simply don’t talk often enough about is Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools for Visual C++ development teams. ALM tools are critical for planning, development, testing, and maintenance of native code bases of every size. Visual Studio Ultimate offers many “out of the box” features for efficiently and easily managing a C++ code base. At Tech Ed North America, Terry Leeper and Rong Lu will be showing off these useful features and giving C++ developers a sneak peak at what’s coming

You should definitely check out the session if you are at Tech Ed. If not, you can watch the full session right here in a couple of days.
Can’t wait that long? Well, no problem. Terry and Rong came to the C9 Studio a few days ago to share some of what they’ll be talking about at Tech Ed in Atlanta. They’ve done some great work in VC10, but ALM tools for C++ developers in the next version of Visual Studio will be better, taking architectural visualization, unit testing (yes!), andmore to the next level for C++ developers.

Enjoy.

If you can’t see any video embedded below, just click [here] to watch this presentation in Channel 9.
